Writers Give Back has teamed up with The Young Storytellers Foundation, providing a fabulous opportunity for you to get involved and give back immediately!
The Young Storytellers Foundation (youngstorytellers.com) provides a mentoring program to local Los Angeles elementary schools, which offers a means of self-expression to kids at a time when public schools have dwindling opportunities for artistic and creative activities within the established curriculum. Over the course of the six-week program, they pair 10 elementary school students with 10 volunteers, who guide and encourage students as they imagine, develop, and write their own short screenplay. At the end of the six-week session, professional actors (all volunteers) join students and mentors in staging The Big Show, a spirited staged reading of each script for an audience of family, teachers, and friends.
Writers Give Back is proud to be sponsoring the Linwood Howe elementary school in Culver City and we will need to provide writing mentors for a six-week session starting in April. Details are below. The time commitment is minimal but the rewards are immense! As someone who has been part of this program already, I cannot stress how much this experience affected me as a writer and a performer. This is a great way to encourage the next generation of young artists and possibly even inspire yourself to create in a way you never imagined.
