What
They Do: The Young Storytellers Foundation provides a mentoring
program that offers a means of self-expression to kids at a time when
public schools have dwindling opportunities for artistic and creative
activities within the established curriculum. Over
the course of our six-week program, YSF pairs 10 elementary school students
with 10 volunteers, who guide and encourage students as they imagine,
develop, and write their own short screenplay.
What They Do: The GingerFly Foundation is an organization created to provide a forum for low income, minority, and inner city teenagers to use the process of filmmaking as a therapeutic tool, a practical instrument to learn life skills, and a method bridge the gap between classroom lessons and career options. The GO FLY program is designed to engage students in a rewarding and fun environment outside of their regular school day. It is their mission to foster high self-esteem, teach positive life choices, and inspire teens to become productive members of their community. How We Help: We provide mentors, funding, and programming support to this organization.
What They Do: First Book is a nonprofit organization with a single mission: to give children from low-income families the opportunity to read and own their first new books. First Book provides an ongoing supply of new books to children participating in community-based mentoring, tutoring, and family literacy programs. How We Help: To date, We have raised over 1000 first books for families.
What They Do: Rx Laughter is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that improves the quality of life for seriously ill pediatric and teenage patients and their families. They relieve the stress and pain of medical procedures and decrease trauma, depression and anxiety. They do this by carefully designing initiatives in close collaboration with oncologists, psychiatrists and nurses. How We Help: To date, we have raised 300 DVDs for their campaign.
What They Do: HALSA is the only organization of its kind in Los Angeles County dedicated to serving the HIV/AIDS related civil legal needs of persons living with HIV or AIDS. HALSA's legal services assist individuals to improve the conditions of poverty, address economic barriers to accessing primary care/treatment and support services and enhance re-entry into the workplace. How We Help: We put together a team to join them in the 2008 AIDS Walk.
What They Do: The mission of the Wounded Warrior Project is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Honoring and Empowering wounded warriors. How We Help: We are sponsoring a fundraising event December 2, 2008 where we will raise funds to help support this cause. What They Do: THE PANCREATIC CANCER ACTION NETWORK is a nation-wide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those afflicted by pancreatic cancer. We raise money for direct private funding of researchand advocate for more aggressive federal research funding of medical breakthroughs in prevention, diagnosis andtreatment. How We Help: We fill the void of information and options by giving patients and caregivers the personalized and reliable information they need to make informed decisions. And, we help individuals and communities across the country work together to raise awareness about pancreatic cancer and the funds to find a cure. We co-sponsored an event with them that raised XXX for cancer research. We helped plan the event, secure musical talent, and provided auction items.
What They Do: The Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust (LANLT) is an independent non-profit organization that facilitates the creation of small, accessible community green and open space, such as parks and gardens, to address the inequity of open spaces in Los Angeles underserved neighborhoods, and to ensure community participation and collaboration in every step of the process of creating these parks and community gardens. How We Help: We put together a team of dedicated writers to build a park in South Los Angeles for Ceasar Chavezs birthday.
What They Do: For 7 years actress Christina Kokubo taught acting classes inspiring those with disabilities. In September of 2006 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and on June 9th 2007 she passed away. Inspiring Players is dedicated to her memory and vision of using performance to empower those with disabilities. Actors Steve Coombs and Ryan Spahn have continued the program in association with the Media Access Office. How We Help: We put together a team of dedicated actors to help with classes and performances. What They Do: Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. |
